âExploration of first onsets of mania, schizophrenia spectrum disorders, and major depressive disorder in the perimenopause,â was published in Nature Mental Health and this study was funded by the Medical Research Council and the European Research Council. The research was conducted in collaboration with Bipolar UK and the UK Biobank.
As one research participant explained:
[O]ur society doesnât talk about, address, understand women our age (menopausal onset) in general very well. And so when you have the added dimension of autism [âŚ] thereâs no resource [âŚ] to tell me how to handle that. And thereâs no room in society for it either [âŚ] we donât talk about menopause, let alone autistic menopause.
